Consultant(e) international(e) – Recherche mobilité climatique femmes, jeunes, handicap

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking an international consultant to carry out qualitative, participatory research on climate‑induced mobility of women, youth and persons with disabilities in the Hodh El Chargui region of Mauritania. The consultant will fill the gap identified by the Climate Vulnerability Assessment by capturing differentiated experiences and adaptation capacities.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement fieldwork in Bassiknou and Adel Bagrou, conducting 16 in‑depth individual interviews (11 face‑to‑face, 5 remote).
• Collect, transcribe and analyse qualitative data using participatory and action‑oriented methods.
• Document gender‑specific and disability‑related barriers to mobility and adaptation.
• Prepare a comprehensive report that complements the existing Climate Vulnerability Assessment.
• Coordinate with IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix team and local stakeholders.
• Ensure ethical standards, data confidentiality and cultural sensitivity throughout the research.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in social sciences, climate change, migration studies, gender studies or a related field.
• Proven experience conducting qualitative field research in fragile or semi‑arid contexts.
• Familiarity with Mauritanian cultural and linguistic settings (French and local languages).
• Ability to work independently in remote locations and travel within the region.
