Deputy Project Manager – HV Substation & BESS

About the role

INTEC Energy Solutions is seeking an experienced Deputy Project Manager to support the delivery of a large‑scale renewable energy project in Mauritania. You will work closely with the Project Manager to coordinate all High Voltage (HV) substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) activities from engineering through handover.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager in executing HV substation and BESS scopes across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, energisation and handover.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage interfaces between HV, MV, BESS, SCADA/EMS, civil and other disciplines.
• Oversee HV substation equipment such as transformers, GIS/AIS, switchgear, protection & control, CTs/VTs, busbars and auxiliary systems.
• Manage BESS components including battery containers, power conversion system (PCS), transformers, MV distribution, HVAC, fire protection, EMS/SCADA and control systems.
• Track engineering deliverables, design changes, RFIs, procurement, manufacturing, delivery, installation and testing.
• Support construction management in subcontractor coordination, progress monitoring, quality, HSE compliance and recovery actions.
• Collaborate with project controls to monitor schedule, cost, critical path activities and risks.
• Assist in handling variations, change orders, claims and commercial impacts.
• Facilitate pre‑commissioning, testing, grid connection, functional verification, punch‑list closure and final handover.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
• 8‑10+ years of experience in project or construction management of HV substations and/or BESS projects.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex interfaces.
• Strong understanding of HSE, QA/QC, ITPs and relevant industry standards.
