Director of Engineering – Facilities Management

About the role

The Director of Engineering is responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of the building, grounds and physical plant, ensuring safety, security and asset protection. This senior position leads budget management, capital projects, preventative maintenance and energy‑conservation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage engineering operations and budgets, reporting performance against targets to senior leadership.
• Oversee all plant equipment including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment and electrical systems in line with SOPs.
• Administer service contracts and ensure fire‑crew procedures, equipment and alarms are fully understood.
• Coach and support the engineering team to control expenses such as wages, utilities, tools, supplies and vendor agreements.
• Develop and implement an engineering operating strategy aligned with the property’s business goals.
• Prepare and monitor the engineering budget, reviewing financial reports and proposing corrective actions.
• Lead long‑term preventative maintenance and 10‑year asset protection plans.
• Supervise construction projects to ensure timely, on‑budget completion and compliance with all regulations.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with 6 years of engineering‑maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics or related field with 4 years experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, Electrical and Plumbing systems.
• Proven ability to manage large budgets, capital‑expenditure projects and energy‑conservation programs.
