Deputy Project Manager – HV Substation & BESS

About the role

INTEC Energy Solutions is seeking an experienced Deputy Project Manager to support the delivery of a large‑scale renewable energy project in Mauritania. You will work closely with the Project Manager to coordinate HV Substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) activities across all project phases.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in executing HV Substation and BESS scopes from engineering through handover.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage interfaces between HV, MV, BESS, SCADA/EMS, civil and other disciplines.
• Oversee HV substation equipment procurement, installation and testing, including transformers, GIS/AIS, switchgear and protection systems.
• Manage BESS components such as battery containers, PCS, MV systems, HVAC, fire protection and control systems.
• Monitor engineering deliverables, design changes, RFIs, procurement, manufacturing, delivery, installation and testing.
• Assist Construction Management with subcontractor coordination, progress tracking, quality, HSE and recovery actions.
• Work with Project Controls to track schedule, cost, critical path activities and risks.
• Support variation, change order and claim management and ensure compliance with HSE, QA/QC and technical standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or related discipline.
• 8–10+ years of experience in project or construction management within power, HV, renewable energy or BESS sectors.
• Proven experience on HV substation and/or large‑scale BESS EPC projects.
• Strong knowledge of HV substations, grid connection, protection and control systems, and BESS technologies.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary EPC activities and managing subcontractors, suppliers and stakeholders.
• Understanding of HSE requirements for HV electrical works and BESS installations.
• Fluent English; French and/or Arabic an advantage.
• Willingness to be based in Mauritania for the project duration.
