Environmental & Social Manager – Mauritania

About the role

INTEC Energy Solutions is seeking an Environmental & Social (E&S) Manager to oversee the environmental and social performance of a utility‑scale solar PV and battery storage project in Mauritania. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with legislation, permits, and international standards throughout the construction phase.

Key responsibilities

• Lead implementation and monitoring of the project's Environmental & Social Management Plan (ESMP).
• Ensure compliance with applicable environmental and social legislation, permits, project requirements, and international standards.
• Monitor environmental and social performance across construction activities and identify risks.
• Assess potential impacts and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
• Oversee contractor and subcontractor compliance with E&S requirements.
• Manage stakeholder engagement and maintain effective communication with local communities and authorities.
• Monitor community health, safety, and social impacts linked to project activities.
• Supervise labor and working conditions, workers' rights, accommodation, grievance mechanisms, and related social performance aspects.
• Establish and maintain grievance mechanisms for workers and affected communities.
• Prepare E&S reports, KPIs, monitoring records, and management updates.
• Coordinate E&S audits, inspections, assessments, and corrective actions.
• Support environmental and social monitoring activities such as waste management, biodiversity, and water resources.
• Collaborate closely with the HSE team to align environmental, social, and occupational health & safety requirements.
• Maintain accurate E&S documentation and ensure timely reporting to project management and stakeholders.
• Promote environmental and social awareness throughout the project team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Social Sciences, Sustainability, or a related field.
• Proven experience in environmental and social management for large‑scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects.
• Strong knowledge of international E&S standards and best practices.
• Experience monitoring compliance, conducting risk assessments, and managing stakeholder relations.
