M&E and Research Field Manager – Mauritania

About the role

STOOS Consulting is seeking an experienced Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) and Research Field Manager based in Mauritania. The role will lead the day‑to‑day implementation of research, assessment and third‑party monitoring assignments, ensuring high‑quality data collection across diverse regions.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate field data collection activities, including household surveys, key informant interviews, focus groups, observations, site visits and market assessments.
• Obtain and follow up on necessary approvals and introduction letters at national, wilaya, moughataa and commune levels.
• Engage with government authorities, public institutions, NGOs, community‑based organisations, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to secure access and support.
• Recruit, onboard, train and supervise enumerators, field researchers, supervisors, interpreters and data‑quality personnel.
• Translate and culturally adapt research tools into Arabic and French and support interpretation into local languages as needed.
• Manage daily field logistics, transportation, respondent mobilisation, sample tracking and progress against timelines.
• Ensure data quality through spot checks, back‑checks, accompaniment visits and timely submission of ethical, complete datasets.

Required profile

• Proven experience in M&E and field research coordination, preferably in Mauritania or similar contexts.
• Strong knowledge of government structures, civil society networks and humanitarian/development partners.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, train and manage diverse field teams.
• Fluency in Arabic and French, with capacity to work in local languages.
• Solid understanding of ethical research standards, informed consent, safeguarding and data confidentiality.
• Willingness and ability to travel to urban, rural, pastoral, oasis, drought‑affected, border and hard‑to‑reach locations.
