Port Agent – Shipping Operations

About the role
OBT Group is seeking a dedicated Port Agent to manage vessel and port operations at the Port of Nouakchott. You will act as the main liaison between ship masters, port authorities, customs, and service providers, ensuring smooth and compliant cargo movements.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate all vessel port‑call activities, from arrival and berthing to departure.
- Prepare and submit required documentation such as port clearances, manifests, and crew lists.
- Facilitate customs and immigration clearance for vessels, crew, and cargo.
- Monitor loading and unloading of containers, break‑bulk, and heavy‑lift shipments, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
- Arrange and oversee pilotage, towage, bunkering, and provisioning services.
- Track vessel schedules, provide real‑time updates, and resolve operational issues promptly.
- Verify accuracy of shipping documents, including Bills of Lading and cargo manifests.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics or a related field.
- Minimum 3 + years experience in port agency, vessel operations or shipping logistics.
- Strong knowledge of Mauritanian port procedures, customs clearance and maritime documentation.
- Excellent organizational, communication and problem‑solving abilities.
- Fluency in English; French highly desirable.
- Commitment to HSE standards and maritime safety regulations.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP.
