Environmental Lead Engineer

About the role

The Environmental Lead Engineer provides technical expertise for the environmental management of Tasiast mining facilities. This role supports waste, tailings, dump leach, waste rock, and processing operations while ensuring compliance with the International Cyanide Management Code.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical input to operational teams on environmental aspects of their activities.
• Develop and maintain an integrated environmental data management system for monitoring and reporting.
• Process field data, generate reports, and analyse trends to guide management decisions.
• Conduct routine inspections of tailings, waste rock, dump leach, and processing facilities.
• Evaluate tailings performance against key indicators in coordination with the Engineer of Record.
• Oversee external consultants, manage scopes of work, and ensure project delivery.
• Maintain the Tasiast stormwater management plan and act as the subject‑matter expert for the International Cyanide Management Code.
• Perform waste audits and recommend improvements to waste management practices.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to identify, analyse, and solve environmental problems.
• Experience with design, construction, and maintenance of civil projects related to mining.
• Knowledge of Mauritanian environmental legislation and relevant government agencies.

Required skills

• Technical expertise in environmental data management and reporting.
• Familiarity with the International Cyanide Management Code.
• Ability to conduct inspections and audits of tailings and waste facilities.
