Trainee Plant Operator

About the role

Wärtsilä is seeking a Trainee Plant Operator to join its power generation site in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The role offers hands‑on experience in operating and maintaining a modern plant while supporting the company’s mission of sustainable energy.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the plant in line with company policies, procedures and the operational profile.
• Plan and execute operational tasks to ensure safety, quality and efficiency.
• Assist with start‑up, shut‑down and normal operation of power plant systems.
• Optimize processes, flows and settings under guidance from technicians and supervisors.
• Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are serviceable and available.
• Monitor task status and report progress to ensure timely completion.
• Complete and maintain logs and running records accurately.
• Identify and resolve routine problems, escalating complex issues as needed.
• Take corrective action during operational disturbances and perform emergency procedures when required.
• Support continuous improvement by suggesting and implementing enhancements.
• Keep the plant clean and safe at all times and collaborate with team members to meet deadlines.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or a related engineering field.
• Fundamental understanding of power generation and distribution principles.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate clearly.
• Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
• Mauritanian nationality.

Required skills

• Basic operational knowledge of power plant equipment.
