Deputy Representative Operations (P-4) – Fixed Term, Nouakchott

About the role

The Deputy Representative Operations (P-4) will support the Head of Office in managing UNICEF’s operations in Mauritania. This fixed‑term position (24 months) is based in Nouakchott and plays a strategic Business Partner role within the senior management team.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the efficient use of UNICEF assets and ensure compliance with sound management practices.
• Assist in monitoring programme implementation and operational performance.
• Provide strategic advice on innovative operational solutions and risk management.
• Coordinate with national authorities, UN partners and donors to align operational activities with the country programme.
• Support humanitarian response efforts, including assistance to refugees and vulnerable children.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in public administration, development studies, or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in operations, logistics or programme management in an international development or humanitarian context.
• Demonstrated experience working in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Strong analytical and decision‑making abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UN operational standards and procurement procedures.
• Experience with budgeting, financial reporting and resource allocation.
• Proficiency in English (both written and spoken); French is an asset.
